About VAT Invoice Maker
VAT Invoice Maker is a free tool that helps UK sole traders and small businesses create professional, HMRC-compliant invoices and quotes — with VAT, without VAT, or with CIS and the domestic reverse charge — entirely in the browser.
Why it exists
Plenty of people sending invoices don't have an accountant or paid software, and the generic invoice generators rarely get the UK specifics right — VAT rates, the CIS deduction, the construction reverse charge, foreign-currency VAT in sterling. We built a tool that handles those correctly, for free, without asking you to sign up or hand over your data.
Why you can trust it
- Your data stays on your device. There are no accounts and no server that receives your invoices. Everything is stored locally in your browser, so your business and client details never leave your computer. You can export a backup or clear everything at any time.
- The numbers are checked against HMRC. Every VAT and CIS rule, rate and piece of wording is verified against current HMRC guidance, with the sources cited in our code, and reviewed regularly. It is, of course, general information — not tax advice.
- Free, with no sign-up. The tool is free to use and never gated. If we ever add advertising or recommend a product, it will be clearly marked.
- Independent. VAT Invoice Maker is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, HMRC or any government body.
How it works
The whole tool runs as a small app inside your browser. When you create an invoice, the calculations happen on your device and the PDF is generated locally — nothing is uploaded. Your saved invoices, quotes and clients live in your browser's storage, which is why we recommend exporting a backup if you want to keep a copy or move to another device.
